Jeep's Origin

The Jeep origin story started in 1940 when a company named Willys produced a light reconnaissance vehicle for the U.S. military to help the war effort. If that name sounds familiar, it's because there have been more than a few Willys edition Jeeps over the years.

Back in 1940, the manufacturer produced 16,000 vehicles for the U.S. Army. Following the war, the manufacturer converted its Toledo, Ohio, manufacturing plant to produce civilian models for American families. Not only has it always been an American SUV, Jeeps have a history of being assembled just a couple states over.

Is Jeep Made in America Today?

Yes! America is Jeep's origin country, past, present, and quite likely for the foreseeable future as well. In fact, some Jeep models are still made in Toledo today, even more than 80 years later. In 2021, Jeep became part of the Stellantis company, and while they are based in The Netherlands, they have remained committed to keeping the iconic automotive brand made in America.
