The 2013 Jeep Patriot vs. the 2013 Hyundai Tucson
The 2013 Jeep Patriot boasts the hallmarks of a classic Jeep vehicle: the boxy styling, the signature seven bar grille, the round headlights, and of course, the superb off-road capability that will take you as far off the beaten path as you want to go. It’s also an affordable entry into the Jeep world and it handles pavement just fine, so it should be a very affordable option for anyone who doesn’t want to spend a life savings on a vehicle that won’t see off-road conditions every day. Here are a few reasons that we think that the Jeep Patriot makes a better choice than other small SUVs like the 2013 Hyundai Tucson.
Value and Performance
The Jeep starts at over $2,000 less than the Hyundai Tucson — $15,995 — making it attractive right off the bat. The lowest priced Tucson runs $20,395 MSRP. Not only that, but the Jeep gets better gas mileage in almost every configuration. With front wheel drive, the Jeep will get 30 mpg on the highway, and in four-wheel drive versions, as much as 28 mpg on the highway. The Tucson gets 29 mpg on the highway with front wheel drive and 27 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive. The Jeep also boasts more power at 172 hp than the base Tucson, which only makes 165 hp.
Features and Options
The Jeep just packs in more convenience than the Hyundai. While both come with multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, an emergency brake assist, and traction control, the Jeep gets stability control with anti-roll control. The Jeep also comes with an engine immobilizer — very useful in the case of theft. The Patriot gets fog lights standard, another useful feature for all-condition driving, and a roof-rack for expanding cargo area.
While the two SUVs are almost the same length, the Jeep should be more comfortable with more headroom all around and more leg room in the back. Overall the Patriot offers more passenger volume by 2 cubic feet.
